Stratovarius: Elysium [Reviews]
Ultimate-Guitar.Com &bull Dec 14, 2011
Well, the overall impression "Elysium" gives to a Stratovarius listener or fan is "Stratovarius never die". It complies very well with their style and proves their greatness. Sound: After Stratovarius "Polaris", an album giving us a first approach to their new guitarist, Matias Kupiainen and new bassist Lauri Porra, the band goes on with "Elysium", an album that certainly follows their legacy. Although Timo Tolkki is missing from the bands lineup once again, somebody would notice that there are almost no changes in the style of Stratovarius.… Full Story »

The Life and Times of Dave Grohl: The Inside Story
Gibson Lifestyle - Features &bull Dec 12, 2011
Some rock biographies stand tall above others, revealing much more than a straight chronology of recording and touring. This is a Call: The Life and Times of Dave Grohl is one such book. Written by former editor of Kerrang! From Grohl being the "goofy" hardcore drummer with Scream, through stardom behind the drumkit with the troubled Nirvana, to his blossoming as the guitar-toting frontman of Foo Fighters, This is a Call tells Grohl's story with style and candor. This is a Call is not an "authorized" biography, yet Dave Grohl obviously knew you were writing it: did that make it… Full Story »

The History Of The Blues: The Roots, The Music, The People
SqueezeMyLemon &bull Dec 12, 2011
Francis Davis's The History of the Blues is a groundbreaking rethinking of the blues that fearlessly examines how race relations have altered perceptions of the music. Tracing its origins from the Mississippi Delta to its amplification in Chicago right after World War II, Davis argues for an examination of the blues in its own right, not just as a precursor to jazz and rock 'n' roll. The lives of major figures such as Robert Johnson, Charlie Patton, and Leadbelly, in addition to contemporary artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Robert Cray, are examined… Full Story »
